david Malone

William David Malone, 49, of Dallas was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 21, 2017. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, devoted son and brother, and a loyal friend to all that knew him.

David was born in Midland, Texas to William and Laura “Skippy” Malone on September 28, 1968. He attended Midland High School where he played football and baseball and then graduated from Texas Tech University as a finance major. He was President of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity where he met many lifelong brothers and friends. David followed in his father’s footsteps by officiating college football including the American Southwest, Southland, Sun Belt, WAC, and the Big XII conferences. After graduation, David joined the Midland Police Department as a reserve officer. He then followed his father into banking before gravitating to the oil and gas industry. David maintained a majority of his friendships for over 30 years from each of these industries and was a lifelong member of the Dallas Petroleum Club.

At the encouragement of his Uncle Dave (Clemens), David had the opportunity to partner with friends and colleagues in the ownership of several ranches or “ranchitos,” in the state of Texas including The SBR Ranch, The Toothless Mule and The Rockin’ V. His other hobbies included hunting, playing golf and spending time at Horseshoe Bay with family and friends.

In 2005, David reconnected with Midland High School classmate Shannon Lillis, who was living in Houston at the time. After hours of talking on their first date, they soon realized Shannon’s father Mike and David’s Uncle Dave had been roommates at Texas Tech. With their many common interests, the pair realized they were made for each other and married in May 2008.

David loved his family. He enjoyed being Uncle Dave to his many nieces and nephews. He considered Shannon’s brothers Steve and Chris Lillis to be his own brothers. He was also very proud when Ryan and Ashley Lillis both chose to attend Texas Tech. He spent time with all of his family at the lake or at one of his ranches as often as he could. Seeing his family having fun and smiling was his favorite thing to do and he would capture as many moments on camera that he could.

David is survived by his wife Shannon; two dogs Gunner and Jake; his mother Skippy Malone, sister Robin Malone Darr and her husband Jeff; father‑in‑law Mike Lillis; brother‑in‑law Steve Lillis and his wife Gena; brother‑in‑law Chris Lillis and his wife Allison; uncle David Clemens; nieces Malone Sams, Elizabeth Darr, Ashley Lillis and Abigail Lillis; nephews Ryan Lillis, Barrett Lillis and Cowden Lillis. David was preceded in death by his father, William H. Malone and his mother‑in‑law Korinna Lillis.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, November 29th at 3:00 p.m. at Sparkman/Hillcrest Northwest Highway Chapel, Dallas, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Sunshine Kids Foundation 2814 Virginia St. Houston, Texas 77098 in David Malone’s name.
