Jake Walker

Jake was a three sport TASO member.  While he retired from football (East Texas
Chapter) following the 2013 season, he remained an active Baseball (Longview
Chapter) and Volleyball (Tyler‑Longview Chapter) member.  Condolences may be sent to Jake’s wife, Gayle

Obituary:

Services for Mr. Jake A. Walker, 67, of
Hallsville will be held on Friday, February 5, 2016 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist
Church in Hallsville under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Kilgore. Rev.
Ottis Jarrell officiating. Jake passed away Monday, February 1, 2016, in
Marshall. 

 

Jake was born on September 21, 1947, in
Gladewater, TX to Jake J. and Nada F. Walker. In 1966 he married the love of
his life Gayle and they spent the next 48 years making many loving and happy
memories together. He was retired from AEP‑SWEPCO/ Pirkey Power Plant where he
worked as a materials supervisor. Jake was a 32nd degree Mason and member of
the James F Taylor Lodge in Hallsville and a Methodist. He has served as Mayor
Pro‑tem and as City Alderman for the City of Hallsville. He loved to play golf
and go fishing. Jake loved sports of all kinds, especially attending the events
of his children and grandchildren. He has touched the lives of many young
athletes by being a baseball umpire for 35 years, football official for 25 years
and volleyball official for 5 years. His family, especially his grandchildren,
was the source of his strength and joy and spending time with them was when he
was happiest. Jake never met a stranger and he greeted everyone as he sat at
the local coffee spot and worked his crossword puzzles every morning. He was
the greatest husband, father and Pap that his family could have ever wished for
and he will be greatly missed by all of those whose lives he has touched.

 

Left to cherish his memory and carry on his
legacy are his wife, Gayle of Hallsville; sons, Guy Walker and wife Michelle of
Hallsville, Kris Walker and wife Jennifer of Diana and Michael Walker of
Hallsville; grandchildren, Jacob and Brayden Walker of Hallsville, Morgan and
Kamryn Walker of Diana; siblings, Danny Walker of Marshall, Martha Chelette and
husband Ray and Mary Brummett of Carthage.

 

Joining him in death are his furbabies Loo and
Blue.   Jake is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Oscar
Walker..

 

The family will receive friends at the funeral
home in Kilgore on Thursday from 5pm until 7pm.
