Justin Keith Springer

September 25, 2011

On Monday, The Houston Football Chapter of the Texas Association of Sports Officials lost one of their own. Justin Springer, Football Chapter Vice President, Educator, Missionary and Family Man succumbed to cancer after a short illness. The Greater Houston Football Coaches Association honored Justin this past year with it's Distinguished Service Award for his contributions and service to the game of football and the Community. During his tenure on the Board of Directors, Justin trained over 600 new high school football officials. He dedicated his life to his wife Karen and their children and the thousands of students he instructed as a teacher at Pearland High School and as an inspiratual leader to all he encountered. Tonight the members of the Houston Football Officials Chapter work with a heavy heart and ask that you join them in a moment of silence for Justin Springer, their fallen friend and mentor.

Age 45, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 26, 2011 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, surrounded by his family. Justin was born to William Gail and Martha Faye Springer on November 25, 1965 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was married on December 28, 1985 to Karen Lanell Pullen of La Porte, Texas, and had two sons, Nathaniel David Springer (born 1988) and Jacob Andrew Springer (born 1990).

Justin graduated from Midwest City, Oklahoma High school in 1984. He attended and was a football player at Oklahoma State University, then graduated from college with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Houston.

Justin loved singing praises to the Lord and was a member of multiple gospel quartets. He served the Lord in all aspects of his life, including missionary work in Nigeria. His genuine care and love for the Lord and for people is evident in all that he did. His outgoing nature and sense of humor endeared everyone to him as he touched and affected countless lives.

Justin also enjoyed teaching; he taught math at Pearland High School and was a professor at San Jacinto Community College.

Justin had a passion for sports and was a football official serving as Vice President of the Houston Chapter of the Texas Association of Sports Officials.
