EDUARDO RODRIGUEZ

Eduardo Rodriguez, 81,a former Concho Valley Basketball Chapter member, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2020 at Shannon Hospital after a long battle with cancer.

Eddie was born in Puerto Rico on April 30, 1939 to Eduardo Rodriguez and Rosa Cortes. His chosen path after school was the United States Air Force, where he spent years abroad. On December 14, 1963 he married the love of his life, Gwendolyn “June” Riordan, and together they welcomed a son, Joseph Christopher Rodriguez. Eddie served honorably in the United States Air Force for over 22 years and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. Upon retirement they made their home in San Angelo. They remained married and dedicated to each other until she left to await him in Heaven 12 years ago.

After various other careers, Eduardo became a member of TASO and officiated basketball and volleyball high school games for a number of years. He was dearly loved as an official and as an ambassador of youth sports. Aside from his passion for debating the rules and details of sports with those he loved, he had a love of the game of golf, and there was not a week he would willingly let go by, without a trip to the golf course. Eddie played golf right up until the final days of his life.

He is survived by his sister Carmen Rodriguez Cortes and son Joseph Christopher Rodriguez. Eddie also had a special bond with his nephew Richard Riordan and his wife Lana, of San Angelo. He will be missed by many great nieces and great nephews that saw him as a grandfather, as well as his extended family and friends. Ed was loved and admired by many for his fiery spirit and his willingness to always be there for those he loved, without fail. His family rejoices in knowing that he is once again with his beloved wife, but will miss him always, and as he would always say ‘I’m good like Tony the Tiger.’
