VOLLEYBALL 2019 OFF-SEASON BOARD MEETING RECAP

On February 1‑2, 2019, the TASO Volleyball Board met for the Off‑Season Board meeting in Dallas. There were a number of important visitors present throughout the first day of the meeting including Dr. Susan Elza and Brandy Belk from University Interscholastic League, Sam Tipton and Lee Grisham from Texas Girls Coaches Association, and Bryan Bunselmeyer, Steve Prud’homme, and Robert Huckabee from Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools. All three organizations spoke highly of the relationship that is shared with TASO and how thankful they are for the knowledge that our officials share. The Board wants to extend sincere appreciation for the members of these associations taking time to come and share information with us.

A site was set for the 2019 TASO State Volleyball Meeting. The meeting will be held at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott, 1601 Lake Robbins Drive on Saturday, July 13, 2019. The President’s/Secretary’s Meeting will take place on Friday, July 12, 2019 beginning at 3:00 PM followed by a Train the Trainer’s Session. Each chapter is required to have a representative at the President’s/Secretary’s meeting as well as for the Train the Trainer’s Panel Discussion. There are plenty of eating establishments within walking distance of the venue and fun things to do.

This is the year that the President, Vice President, and odd numbered districts will have elections. The deadline to declare your intent to run for one of these offices is October 1, 2019. Please see the TASO website under the Member’s Portal for the Candidate’s Profile if you want to run for an office.

The Finance Committee presented the TASO Volleyball Financial Report to the Board. The Financial Report is unaudited at this time of the year, however, TASO Volleyball is solvent and the membership renewal/application combined with the Continuing Education Fee has been a very positive change for the Volleyball Division.

A number of items in the current TASO Volleyball Operating Procedures were discussed and those will be adjusted and placed on the TASO Volleyball Website under the Members Portal. It was brought to the Board’s attention that there were some grammar issues and some outdated language that needed to be corrected by the Policies and Procedures Committee.

The Awards Committee presented the upcoming special awards to the Board for approval. Gift baskets were also discussed and a limit of $150 was set for each basket from each District. Gerald Johnson has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Awards Committee. Thank you to Joe Lizama for his service as Chairperson in the past.

The Rules Committee discussed the format for the State Meeting. We will have morning break‑outs sessions, as well as a new official’s group session for 0‑3‑year officials, lunch, an afternoon panel discussion, new rules interpretation, and awards. The Board also approved an all‑white collared long‑sleeved polo shirt with the TASO logo and flag.

The 2019‑2020 Volleyball Rule Changes were released on February 1, 2019. Gloria Cox will present those changes at the Volleyball State meeting. Make sure that you look over them prior to attendance at the meeting or the Regional Clinics.

Speaking of Regional Clinics…

The Regional Clinics will span two weekends and there will be five clinics over four days.

All in all, it was a great meeting for the Board of Directors. We accomplished many things to prepare for our service to our members. Thank you for allowing us to serve you!
