STEVE MORRIS

Deputy Steven F. Morris passed away Monday, October 16, 2017 at the age of 51. He was born in Wichita, KS on July 9, 1966 to John and Rita Morris. Steve joined the Air Force after graduating from high school and served proudly from December of 1985 to August of 1992. After separating from the Air Force, Steve went into Law Enforcement, first at the Bexar County Correctional Facility, then at the Converse Police Department. He began working at the Comal County Sheriff’s Department in January of 1999. He proudly served as a member of the CCSO SWAT team from November 2000 until he was promoted to CID in January 2007. He left Investigations when he was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in 2013, so he could get back out on the road where he felt most useful and enjoyed working as a Field Training Officer for the new incoming deputies.
Steve enjoyed baseball and worked as an umpire with TASO for many years officiating for the Little League and Select Leagues throughout the Greater San Antonio and New Braunfels areas.
Steve also worked for over a decade as the weekend doorman at the Tavern in the Gruene, in New Braunfels, where he made a great number of friends. Everyone knew behind that stern facade, was a sharp wit and a huge heart. He was loved by many and will greatly be missed by all.
He was a generous man and would bend over backwards to help anyone in need. He volunteered for several years as a “foster” for San Antonio Pets Alive, bottle‑feeding and caring for kittens until they were old enough to adopt. In doing so, he ended up with a few “foster failures” that stayed on as permanent pets in his home.
Steve is survived by his parents, John and Rita Morris of Pretty Prairie, KS; daughter, Colyn Morris; son, Michael Morris of Rio Rancho, NM; brothers, Scott Morris of Henderson, NV and John Morris of San Diego, CA; sister, Joy Tipton of Pretty Prairie, KS; close friends, Katy Richards of San Antonio, TX and Ken McDonnell of Austin, Texas; and his extended family at the Comal County Sherriff’s Office.
His Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Tree of Life Church, New Braunfels, TX, Followed by a graveside service at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX at 2: 00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made, in Steve’s honor, to Wayward Whiskers Cat Rescue, 6407 Pacer Trail, San Antonio, TX 78240 or The Green Santa Program, Comal County Sheriff’s Department, 3005 W. San Antonio St., New Braunfels, TX 78130.
