BIBLE HONORED FOR LONGEVITY, POSTSEASON WORK

LUBBOCK, Texas — The National College Baseball Hall of Fame announced TASO Life Member Jon Bible is the 2019 recipient of the National Collegiate Umpire Award on Wednesday, honoring a lifetime of excellence in umpiring.

Bible, who umpired at the College World Series seven times between 1979 and 1995, served as the first national coordinator for the NCAA Division I Baseball Umpire program.

“Jon is very deserving of this award,” said Mike Gustafson, president and CEO of the National College Baseball Hall of Fame. “Not only did he call games on college baseball’s biggest stages, but he was also part of the formalization of the umpire evaluation program.”

Bible was selected for the National Collegiate Umpire Award as the result of a nomination and screening process by past and current NCAA national coordinators of umpires, NCAA regional advisers, conference umpire coordinators and four collegiate head coaches.

He will be honored as part of the Hall of Fame’s annual Night of Champions on Nov. 2 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
