BITE YOUR TONGUE
If you have been officiating for a while, you most likely can remember a time when you escalated a confrontation by saying something that was better off unspoken. It’s never easy to keep your emotions in check and not respond to comments from players and coaches, but in most cases the best thing you can do is to simply ignore them. When a coach or player becomes vulgar or profane to you, don’t take the same tone, just do your job with a flag, technical foul, bench restriction, yellow card, or ejection if warranted. This is never easy, but we must maintain a professional attitude and demeanor and take appropriate action.
