ANTHONY ERVIN, SR
Anthony was a 34 year member of TASO Football Austin Chapter.
Mr. Ervin was given a military funeral with honors Monday, March 10, 2025 at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
Mr. Anthony Quincy Ervin, Sr., affectionately known as “Amp”, “Tony”, “Chicken”, or “Sergeant Major” was born on September 16, 1954, to Neal and Vera Ervin in Oakland, California. He attended public school in Oxford, Alabama. He was baptized into Christ on April 24, 2002, at the East Side Church of Christ, Austin, Texas, under the leadership of Brother George Williams, where he remained until his health failed. Mr. Ervin joined the United States Army on October 16, 1972, excelling to the rank of Sergeant Major. He served as an Infantry Soldier and later a Senior Noncommissioned Logistician. He received the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Noncommissioned Officer’s Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon. Mr. Ervin was also a very proud member of the Texas Association of Sports Officials. He refereed Pop Warner, Middle and High School Football for over 30 years. He loved football and was a loyal and dedicated fan of the University of Alabama’s Crimson Tide (Roll Tide) and the Texas Longhorns. Tony met and married the love of his life, Arkainee Gayle Sims, on February 18, 1978. To their union, Anthony Jr. and Arnetia Viccole were born. Tony worked for the IRS and later the Veterans Administration for 13 years. He retired in 2013. His pastime was spent refereeing, walking with his buddies, and spending time with friends. He loved the Lord and his church family, and he loved helping fellow veterans and his family. Anthony Quincy “Tony” Ervin, Sr. departed this life on Saturday, February 22, 2025, in Round Rock, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Neal Ervin, Jr. and Vera Ervin Swink; brothers, Neal Ervin, III, Felix Ervin (Hazel), Marshall Ervin, and Johnny Lanier Ervin (Shemieka); and one sister, Terri Ervin Rowe. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 47 years, Arkainee Gayle Ervin of Round Rock, Texas; one son, Anthony Quincy Ervin, Jr. of Round Rock, Texas; one daughter, Arnetia Viccole Ervin of Austin, Texas; one granddaughter, Kaila Renee Ervin of Round Rock, Texas; four sisters, Alphelia Ervin Smith, Selina Ervin McGrue, Vanessa Ervin Williams (Roderick), and Pamela Ervin, all of Anniston (Hobson City), Alabama; one sister in‑law. Stephanie Sims Hamilton (Glenn); one brother in‑law, Verney Staples, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
