ROY DARBY

Roy was a Life Member of TASO (Southwest Basketball Officials Association) and the SBOA Jacksonville Chapter, since merged with the East Texas Dogwood Chapter.

A funeral service for Roy Wayne Darby, age 80, of Jacksonville, is scheduled at 11 o’clock in the morning, Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville, Dr. Edwin Crank will officiate. He will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery in Jacksonville.
Mr. Darby passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017 in Tyler.
Roy Wayne was born January 25, 1937 in Jacksonville, Texas to Henry Bryant and Gertrude Darby.
Mr. Darby worked in JISD for 35 years and had a great love for the high school. He was the assistant principal for 12 years and principal for 11 years at the high school, and a teacher for the rest of his years there. Roy served as the Dean of Students at Jacksonville College for 15 years and was a deacon of Tabernacle Baptist Church. He was a lifetime member of the Southwest Basketball Officials Association. Mr. Darby coached youth baseball in Jacksonville for 15 years and served on the JISD School Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife Tommie Fay Holcomb Darby.
Left to cherish his memory is his son James Bryant Darby and wife Connie of Athens, Nephew Jimmy Cleaver and wife Ginger of Jacksonville, grandchildren Mica Sherrill, Maddison Helm, Katelynn Helm, Dustin Helm, grand nieces and nephews, Clay Cleaver, Jill Detcheverry, Cash Cleaver and Carson Cleaver.
Pallbearers will be James Spivey, Jess Hamilton, Jimmy Cleaver, Danny Long, Larry Garner, Connie Irby, Ricky Brooks and Paul Essary.
Visitation will begin on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 and friends are cordially invited to visit with the family from 6 to 8 o’clock in the evening at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
