W.P. “Rip” Drumgoole

A longtime TASO Football member (Tyler‑Lone Star Chapter) died Oct. 27, 2011 following a long battle with cancer..

Rip
officiated 5 state championship games. The first one was in 1991 –
Carthage vs A&M Consolidated in the Astrodome., he also  officiated
the Texas High School Coaches Association All Star game. He served the
chapter on numerous occasions as a division rep and was also involved
with the Athens Football Officials Clinic since its inception in 1984.
Rip’s last game was a playoff game in Brownwood last season

Rip
was employed at HCJC/TVCC for 38 years. He has severed as vice president
of student affairs since 1980. He was involved with numerous local
organizations. These included the Athens Rotary Club, the Athens
Economic Development Corporation, Henderson County Girls Softball
Association, Cain Center board of directors, Henderson County YMCA board
of directors and were a member of the Mt. Providence Baptist Church.

He
was a He is survived by a son and daughter, and two grand children, all
of Austin. Rip also leaves behind a large extended family of TASO
members
