Afif Saad

Dr. Afif Hani Saad, 84, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2020 at his home in Richmond. Afif was a Houston TASO (HSSOA) Soccer and a Houston TASO (HAVOC) Volleyball member. 

He was born April 14, 1936 in Dier Mawas, Egypt to Saad Sharobeem Saad and Martha Boutros Hanna. Afif came to the United States in 1960 and became a citizen in 1976. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Alexandria, his Master’s Degree from Missouri School of Mines, and his Ph.D. from Stanford University. While at Stanford, Afif met Linda Saad, his wife of almost 52 years. Afif was an Exploration Geophysicist with a specialty in Gravity and Magnetics, working primarily with Gulf Oil Co. and Chevron Corp. Even in retirement, Afif remained active in the geophysical community, including involvement in the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, co‑authoring a textbook, and contributing to numerous technical journals. Outside of his professional career, Afif enjoyed refereeing youth soccer and volleyball for almost 40 years.

Survivors include his loving wife Linda, three sons, Naddir Saad, Terry Saad, Ramsey Saad and wife Amy, his sister, Amani Sharobeem, six grandchildren, Sydney, Mason, Adrian, Leia, Ava, and Hannah Saad . He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Onsi Saad and Adel Saad.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 6, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until service time. Afif will be buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cypress, California.
