JIM CHAN

TASO Soccer Capital Referees Chapter referee Jim Chan tragically passed away in an automobile accident earlier this month.

Jim has been a mainstay of Capital Referees in Austin for the last nine seasons. In the fall he was part of their college referee chapter, working games at Southwestern, UT, St Eds and Texas State. In the winter you would see him at area high schools most Tuesday and Friday nights. He would also be part of the AMSA, ECNL and MLS Next.

Jim had many great experiences on the field. He was selected as an official on the first official soccer match played in Q2 stadium (pictured below, Jim center). Jim also officiated MLS preseason matches, sharing the field with many former and future World Cup players.

Jim was known for his kindness on and off the soccer field. In a very stressful position as a referee, he was always known to keep his calm demeanor. He has made several close friends in the soccer world. The loss of Jim is a great blow to the soccer community, we will miss him greatly, both on and off the field.

We will share any opportunities for celebrating Jim’s life as details become available.
