TASO OFFICIALS’ INSURANCE SUMMARY

Coverage Summary As a part of Arbiter Sports, Texas Association of Sports Officials (TASO) member officials are provided with General Liability, Excess Liability, Accident Medical, and Accidental Death & Dismemberment coverage while they are officiating during covered activities as outlined below.
General Liability
Policy will provide $1 million per occurrence, subject to a policy aggregate of $5 million per official. Participant Legal Liability is included within the limits of coverage. Policy will provide $1 million per occurrence/$2 million aggregate for sexual abuse and molestation. Defense costs are paid in addition to these limits.
Excess Liability
Policy provides up to $4 million per occurrence with a policy aggregate of $4 million. Excess coverage is triggered when general liability limit is exhausted. Coverage excludes sexual abuse and molestation.
Accident Medical
Coverage is provided up to a limit of $50,000, with a $250 deductible. Benefit period is 52 weeks. Coverage is excess of any other valid and collectible insurance the official may have in force. The $250 deductible will need to be paid over any primary insurance the official may have in force.
Accidental Death & Dismemberment
Policy provides a $10,000 limit for Accidental Death & Dismemberment, including limited coverage for heart and circulatory disorders.
Covered Activities (All Coverages)
• For coverage to apply, the individual must be a registered official with Arbiter Sports through TASO. Membership will be verified by Arbiter Sports before any claim is paid.
• This insurance coverage shall apply while the member official is engaging in officiating activities for sports/ activities that are recognized by the state high school association where the game/contest takes place and that follow the sports guidelines of an accredited sport sanctioning organization or governing body. If a sport is recognized for either men or women by the state high school association, the official will be covered for officiating both men and women. Officiating activities include assigning, chain crew, and attending or operating officiating camps, clinics or meetings. Coverage will extend to non‑high school activities as well, such as middle school, summer leagues, and recreational leagues, but no coverage will apply for officiating at the professional or semi‑professional level. IMPORTANT: The officiating game/match assignment must come through a TASO Chapter or assigning authority authorized by TASO.
• Coverage may extend to include travel directly to and from a covered activity for all Participant Accident benefits. No liability coverage is provided for travel to and from a covered activity.
• Officiating activities include assigning, chain crew, and attending or operating officiating camps, clinics or meetings.

What does a D&O policy cover?
D&O liability protects TASO, each division entity and each chapter entity from claims arising out of wrongful acts or claims of errors and omissions. Some examples of D&O type claims would be those stemming from eligibility matters, discrimination or wrongful termination, The policy specifically excludes claims that result from bodily injury or property damage. Those types of claims are covered by the general liability policy.
Who is covered?
This program provides broad coverage for TASO and each division entity and each chapter entity of each division. It not only covers the officers and directors of TASO, each division entity and each chapter entity, but also provides protection for anyone acting in an official capacity on behalf of any covered insured including assignment secretaries.
D&O Liability Limits:
• Limit of liability – $1,000,000
• Aggregate per policy term – $1,000,000
• Deductible per claim – $10,000**
**On any claim made against a chapter, the chapter’s portion of the deductible is limited to $2,500 – TASO will incur the remainder of the deductible.
This policy is written on a claims made basis, meaning that any claims or potential claims must be reported within the policy term to be eligible for coverage.
Insurance Company: This program is underwritten by the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, Warren, NJ. Chubb is rated “A+” (Superior) by A.M. Best’s rating service.
GENERAL LIABILITY PROGRAM
The General Liability protection program provides protection for TASO, EACH DIVISION AND EACH CHAPTER against claims of bodily injury liability, property damage liability and the litigation costs to defend against such claims. Coverage is provided up to $1,000,000.00 per occurrence with a General Aggregate amount of $5,000,000.00.

Accident Claims
Accident insurance policies, unlike health insurance policies, have self imposed notice of claim requirements and payment benefits.
1. Written or authorized electronic notice of claim must be given to TASO within 31 days after a covered loss/injury occurs or as soon as reasonably possible.
2. First covered expense or treatment must be incurred within 60 days from the date of injury.
3. The benefit period is for a 12 month period from the date of injury.

Step 1: Fill out the online form linked in the top right of this page. Once this is received, TASO will verify your membership status, game/match assignment and send you the insurance claim form for completion.
Step 2: Follow the instructions and complete all questions on the claim form that you receive from TASO. The claim form must be returned to HRS within 31 days of the date of injury either by fax (972‑512‑5820), email (claims@hrsi.com) or by mail (8400 Belleview Drive Suite 150 Plano, TX 75024)
