TASO FOOTBALL TO HONOR D.W. RUTLEDGE

At their off‑season meeting the TASO Football Board of Directors approved a recommendation by the Awards Committee to present D.W. Rutledge the TASO Football Don Whitaker Award.  Coach Rutledge retired this past December as Executive Director of the Texas High School Coaches Association.  He joined THSCA in 2001, taking over as the Executive Director in 2004.  Before joining THSCA, Rutledge was the head coach at Converse Judson winning four state championships with a record of 198‑31‑5 in 17 seasons. The football stadium there currently bears his name.

“Coach Rutledge has been a good friend to TASO, working closely with us in many areas of officiating”, said Michael Fitch, TASO Executive Director, “This honor by the Football Board is well deserved”.  TASO Football President John Miller said, “The Whitaker Award is not something we hand out often, but I can’t think anyone worthier than Coach Rutledge”.

The award is named after TASO Insurance Advisor and Finance Committee Chairman, Don Whitaker and is reserved for non TASO members who make a signification contribution to TASO Football.
