TEXAS LEADS THE COUNTRY IN HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION
According to the NFHS website, Texas has the largest number of high school sports participants with 364,020 girls and 515,383 boys for a combined total of 879,403 during the 2024‑2025 school year.
California holds down the second sport with a combined total of 852,575. Rounding our the top five are Ohio (335,808), Pennsylvania (333,123), and Illinois at 328,362.
