THE TEXAS WAY – OFFICIALS
“The Texas Way” is an initiative created to improve sportsmanship at the middle and high school level directed to coaches and athletes. The program was developed by 2Words Character Development at the request of the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) and the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association (THSADA). Since the creation of The Texas Way, the University Interscholastic League (UIL), Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA), the Texas High Baseball Coaches Association (THSBCA), and the Texas Basketball Coaches Association (TABC) have each announced their support of The Texas Way. This is the first time that all the major stakeholders have united in an effort to turn the current trend of increasing poor sportsmanship at the middle and high school levels.
At the April 2024 TASO All‑Spots Board of Directors Meeting, the Board voted to engage Stephen Mackey to create an Officials Course based on the same concepts that were developed for coaches and players.
The vision is simple, yet powerful; if coaches, players and officials were all operating from the same concepts, the trend of poor sportsmanship could be reversed.
